“Caring Is Our Calling” is Stay Home Senior Services’ slogan. We are a very compassionate group of people.Take a moment to think about the last time someone did something nice for you, just because. It probably put a smile on your face. When you do something nice for others, it’s a great feeling when you have a moment to make a small difference in another person’s life. We invite you to brighten a senior’s day through a random act of kindness. You may find it will brighten yours too.

Here are 5 simple things you can do to help the seniors in your life.

1. Check in on them.

Do you have 15 minutes a week to spare? Just popping in on an elderly neighbor to share a cup of tea and chat for a few minutes could help your neighbor with the epidemic of loneliness. While you are there look around.

Is the household being maintained? Do they have clean laundry? Is the refrigerator stocked sufficiently? How is their personal hygiene? If they live alone, it may be a matter of malnutrition of self-neglect. If you notice something – say something.

Just a few minutes can make a difference.

2. Send a card

A simple gesture that takes you only a few minutes, will likely put a smile on your elderly neighbor or family member’s face, and you have done something good – so it’s a win-win!

3. Offer to help with shopping.

Before heading out to the supermarket to do your weekly shopping ask if your neighbor or relative would like to come or if they have a list you can take for them.

4. Bring a meal.

Surprise them with a home cooked meal or baked goods. Simple things like this – make a difference in their lives and in yours.

5. Plant a flower

Plant flowers or bulbs where they can watch them grow.

Seniors may not recognize they need extra help or may be in denial. By doing special things for the seniors in your life, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
